# License Deactivation not working

Hello, my laptop died and the factory io license is trapped in the laptop. How can I deactivate the license?

Also, I have a valid license on another computer in my lab, but I get the following error when I try to deactivate this license (license generator not found at this URL)

Please contact us through support so we can help you. Follow [this link](https://factoryio.helpscoutdocs.com/), click “Contact” and send us a message with your license key (do NOT post it here).  
Also, please update your FIO version to 2.4. Using an older version causes the described error. Follow [this link](https://community.factoryio.com/t/factory-i-o-v2-4-0-now-available/23) for a more in-depth explanation.
